Today, we’re talking about one of my favorite naughty self-help tricks: Googling instead of only listening to the voices within.
A lot of people will tell you all the answers are within. That’s true to an extent – you know what’s true for you, you know what your gut says. But, do you always have the most empowering reframes for your limiting beliefs? I don’t.
I Google (or Chat, or Perplexity, or Pinterest), inspiring ideas to retrain my brain.
For example, when I first started coaching, I experienced a ton of rejection – something I wasn’t used to after spending a decade inside Google. Instead of relying on my brain to redirect, I found quotes that inspired me, put them on a vision board, and looked at them every day to remind myself of more empowering ways to interpret rejection. Here’s my Rejection Redirect Hall of Fame list as an example:
💬 “People will love you. People will hate you. And none of it will have anything to do with you.” – Abraham Hicks
💬 “If you live for people’s acceptance, you’ll die from their rejection.” – Lecrae
💬 “If you’re not getting rejected daily, your goals aren’t big enough.” – Chris Dixon
💬 “Rejection is protection.” – Jamie Kern Lima
💬 “Success is buried on the other side of rejection.” – Tony Robbins
I’ve done this for many topics – relationships, self-confidence, bravery, even reminders to focus on pleasure over constant productivity.
It takes just a sec to find inspiring quotes, and you can keep them on your desktop, phone, or on a Post-it above your computer etc. The more I look at the quotes, the easier it is to redirect when I’m triggered.
Try it out, and let me know what you think!
