Notes from Time Away
Actionable Practices for a Life that Delights You in 10 minutes or less
Hi there! Big week this week 
Here’s what I’ve got – and no, it’s definitely not on politics! We’re talking about the joy of collaboration and the universe acting in your favor.
Have you ever heard quotes like these and doubted their validity?:
- “And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” ― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
- “Leap, and the net will appear.” – John Burroughs
- “What if I fall? Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?” – Erin Hanson
- The universe has your back.” – Unknown
I have a love/hate relationship with quotes like these because one of my biggest Achilles heels is self-doubt. “I don’t think I can; I’m not good enough; it’s going to be so embarrassing.” When I hear quotes like this, they trigger that doubt.
That’s starting to change though 🙂 The photo above is one of my first proof points that I’m on the right track. In her book, Worthy, Jamie Kern Lima says, “After you take that next step that feels right, look around. Observe who shows up around you in this new place, and how they show up. Don’t be surprised if once you’ve taken that next right step, new people come into your life at exactly the right time. New people you meet, or even old friends or colleagues that get back in touch.”
The photo is of my dear, dear friend Thekla and me right after giving our talk on self-compassion and social media at the Midlife Conference in Maine. We were overjoyed. Our talk went so well; we had fantastic flow and chemistry, and most of all, we had a great time together while positively impacting the 100+ audience.
We’ve been friends since we met at summer camp when we were 12, but our friendship had been dormant for over a decade. No love was lost, but we weren’t orbiting each other. The moment I decided to take the leap and pursue coaching, Thekla came rushing back into my life, offering not only epic, soul-level friendship but also an incredibly complementary skillset as a psychologist.
I offer this story to your psyche as proof that support and gifts appear when you leap towards the life you want to be living. Is it still scary as hell, and do I still experience doubt? 100% yes … but, I have to be honest and say my doubts are slowly being proven wrong and replaced with a deepening faith that it’s all working out for me. (It helps that I tell myself that everyday too – positive self talk, story for another post!)
